To meet the country’s housing needs under Naya Pakistan Housing Project (NPHP), the government of Imran Khan aims to build more than 5 million homes in Pakistan. For this purpose, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has identified 8000 Kanal of land in LDA City and plans to develop 35,000 housing units for the employees of LDA, other government departments and f or the general public as well.
LDA City Housing Scheme is spread over an area of 60,000 Kanal and connects the society with Ferozepur Road, Defense Road, Jia Bhagga Road, and Khana Kacha Road. The location of LDA City seems to be easily accessible from all sides of the city. Gajju Matta Metro Station is at a small distance from the society and the speedo bus can easily be accessible from the Canal Stop. LDA City is just 1.5 km away from Park Avenue Housing Scheme which is an LDA approved project located at Jia Bhagga Road.
To overcome the shortage of houses, the constructors are encouraged to build apartments. As the estimated urban housing shortage is around 4 million. 53% population of the country resides in Punjab which is why the housing needs in Punjab are way more than the other provinces of Pakistan. To encourage vertical growth of the city and to save the prime agricultural land, the Lahore Development Authority has introduced LDA Building and Zoning Regulations 2019. These regulations allow the developers to increase building height and achieve low-cost dwellings to the residences.
Recently, the Chief Minister of Punjab said 4000 apartments will be built at LDA City for the middle class and salaried persons in the 1st phase. The estimated cost of a 650 sq. ft. apartment will be around 2.5 million rupees and PC-1 of this project will be approved by the end of December. Moreover, Minister for Housing and Urban Development said that the groundbreaking of 35,000 new housing units will be performed by Prime Minister Imran Khan on 25th December while he was speaking to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
